n00b help
« on: February 06, 2014, 03:57:36 AM »
I have my NXT wallet v 0.5.12 running on localhost, I have created a password that is long. The unlocked wallet is showing " 771722554159220546"

To draw an analogy to Bitcoin, is this an address or is it a wallet ?
Should I keep this number private? Or are the transactions in this account anonymous?

Also the NXT Faucet asks fro an "Account ID" while the instructions talk about an "account number"
are they the same thing?

thanks.

771722554159220546 is your account number. It's public. People can send NXT to that address.

Good luck with Nxt! :)

Correct. What you cannot share, for obvious reasons, is your pass phrase. If you don't have a strong enough pass phrase (atleast 80 chars long, includes special characters and symbols), create a new account and move all your NXT there.

One last thing, your account will be more secure if you have at least one outgoing transaction; your account is then introdu ed to the peer and is known. =)

So my NXT account is the equivalent to a Bitcoin address.

My account number is not a Bitcoin wallet but more like a public bank account number, is this correct?

How is anonymity or pseudonymity achieved ?

Yes, you NXT account number is the "same" as you bank account or public Bitcoin address. People can send NXT to that address.

The anonymity is that you don't have to fill in you name and personal data. But people can see all the transactions of all accounts, they are public.

My public address: http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=7582598942095085392

I advise to wirte down your password somewhere and keep it safe in a vault too. And don't write that is for Nxt, just a paper with you very long password (I recommend at least 80 characters, but mine passwords are over the 100 characters, generated with 1Password).
