Forum Suggestion and Web Dev for Hire
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:22:17 AM »
Hey guys thought I'd give a little suggestion. I noticed the forums are in the root folder of the web, and I've been seeing this a lot in some other coins as well.  I think this is a bad idea for the future. Here's why I think this and I'll propose a solution:

 - With the forum in the root it will be more difficult to add a real website that is better for marketing the coin. Creating a different domain just for this is a bad idea. And yes you can move it, but if forum pages are already indexed it will hurt the rankings more than anything. Now that it's early it would be a good time to make the structure better.
 - Moving the forum now to a subdomain like  forum.nextcoin.org would be a good temporary solution until a real website is made.

 - Why a full fledged website is necessary to achieve growth:
   - Dumbing down why NXT is awesome is key to getting a mainstream audience.
   - Providing this information on a great looking site also helps. Look at what megacoin has achieved with just that.
   - A forum can easily get hammered and pull down a server. People panic when sites go down. By creating a website, and making it static, there would be no worry of the actual site going down even if the forum is.  This can be achieved by creating static pages and putting them somewhere like Google App Engine and slapping Cloud Flare on top of it. (it will be dirt cheap and fully scalable).

Having all that said I'll put my services to hire to achieve these goals. I've been creating websites professionally for over 10 years now. While I have a good knowledge of all encompassing web skills I specialize in:
    - LAMP Stack
    - Frontend UI with jQuery
    - UIX
    - and of course I'm proficient with the frontend design languages, HTML/CSS

I can design full websites from scratch as well but that's not my strength, I work better with a designer and giving design & UI direction. I can work with a designer or I have no problem buying a template on themeforest and completely redoing it to make it look unique. You an see an example of this at kedija.com .

Should you be interested I'd love to discuss more in detail.

Best,
Blind :)shot

I don't think this site was created by the dev of NXT. This forum is made by the creator of Dgex.com

Is this considered the Official Site or do you know if they're planning on creating an official one on some other domain controlled by NXT devs?

Either way my services are there should anyone need.

No I don't know, but maybe the admin of the forums might need your services

He does have a point though.  Sucks that were kinda hafass doing it here.  wherever the main site is, the forums would need to be there.  Maybe in the future, DGEX wont mind giving up this domain to the dev for main website use.

Should that transfer happen though, OP is correct, it will sort of screw things up.

Ive messaged the owner here about this suggestion, and have pointed him to your OP here, blindshot.  Nice catch.

Though I guess if worst comes to worst we could just use nextcoin.org for the main site and continue this one as is.

and you got some NXT coming your way.
Not a stakeholder, so NXT accepted here: 12692935506199079028 if you think I've given value here

The thing is the devs are half-assing it also. The client is bugged, and no website? Who is even developing this altcoin?

Thanks for the NXT, I appreciate it! :)

This website we're talking about is in the interest of the devs and DGEX, whoever has the power of the domain should still want it as it'll increase the value of the coin. They don't have to give up the domain itself to have room for the new website, they can move the forum to a subdomain, and then point www. and regular to a new IP which would host the site. Should be fairly painless, but of course we'd need a dev to take action on this.

There are a lot of bugs, the NXT dev is working hard, but I just found out today that January is the tentative release date and we're just helping mature the software before it's considered official. This is something a website would've brought to everyone's attention from the start so they panic less.  Just some thoughts, but I guess i'm preaching to the wrong quire since you guys also see the need for this.

Hopefully a dev gets in touch so we can work on something.

Hello Blindshot, great to have skilled folks here so welcome!  :)

This is not an "official" forum as such currently as there is no official party operating for NXT at all, however we're in good terms with the developers and indeed aiming to get this domain to be the brand for NXT. Launching DGEX and this forum we're on the forefront with Come-from-Beyond and Bcnext the codebase developers along with a few other guys involved closely in developing core services for NXT.

I'm not sure how essential the separate forum subdomain would be, as you see the current solution is to have a splash page from which any areas of the domain (forum, info, resources) can then be accessed. But let's think that through.

Maybe you can prove your ranks by attending to the JS Chart bounty here: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,24.0.html

It would be a pleasure to work more closely with a skilled developer onboard the community.

Hi Guys,

I own the doman nextcoin.bit, but would provide it to the community, free of charge ofcourse.
So if you feel now, or any time later that you would like to use the domain, just let me know.
Show your love by sending me some Nxt coins ;)

Personally, the way I do many forums, is to bypass everything and go directly to the forums list of interest by using either a bookmark or starting to type the direct link in the address bar and letting the shortlist do its job.  If you dont want to subdivide a domain for the forms at least make it a very short address off the root with the word FORUM in it there for easy selection that way, othwise people may get annoyed

There are two moderators, opticalc who migrated from his admin position of an alternative forum set up at the same time, and drexme who is by far the most active poster and a capable mod.
