License for source release

I posted something similar to this deep in another thread, but wanted to bring it up again prior to the release.

The question is: what license will the source code be released under?

Given that there is a lot of concern about copycat currencies cropping up after the Nxt release, why not release the Nxt source code with a custom open source license that forbids any derivative work to result in a publicly traded cryptocurrency?

This certainly won't stop others from copying, but what it will do is make major investors and governments far more reluctant about embracing a copycat which violates the license, which will keep the copycat from getting off the ground.

This also won't stop others from using the source code to see how the Nxt features have been implemented and then go and try to do it on their own, but I don't think that is what you are worried about because that will take time, and Nxt will be far ahead.

But of course you need a good lawyer to get the language of the license tight.

I'd love to hear what others think about this.

It's too risky to put it out with a restrictive license.   If this coin is going to have big growth it needs to attract developers who will be turned off if games are played with the licensing.

As I understand it (can't find the info, it's buried somewhere in here though), the source is going to be released with a few pre-engineered flaws in it.
There will be a prize attached to finding these flaws. If after a few months they are not found, they will be revealed.

The strategic idea is to get people involved into really delve into the code so it is properly reviewed and also to make blatant copycatters wary of just using the code.

The source code will be released under "Do anything u wish" licence. Copycats r free to launch their own coins based on the code, but after the flaws r revealed these coins will die, I believe.

After all it's the survival of the fittest.
Also a question remains to be answered, are early adopters/founders are here because they're in favor of an eco-friendly decentralized coin with extra features ?

I'm a big fan of natural selection. But survivor of the fittest is not a really accurate description. It's more like the survival of the most adaptable, ruthless, and sneaky. If the competitior dies out because you poisoned the water supply that is still part of natural selection.
