Why was fundraising closed early?
« on: December 10, 2013, 02:16:09 AM »
I've been reading through the original bitcoin talk thread announcing NXT. As far as I can tell, fundraising was initially announced to be open until the coin launched on Jan 3, but then BCNext closed it without any warning about six weeks earlier than that date after he got 20 BTC (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.msg3620732#msg3620732) from only 71 stakeholders even though here he said he wanted at least 250 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.300). I still haven't seen an explanation of why he closed the fundraising so early with so few stakeholders. I'm sure more people would have invested if the window stayed open and that would have reduced the concentration.

Does anyone know why this was done? It seems like it would have benefited the coin to keep the fundraising open longer.

Im sure many would have too... I only missed it by a few days.  I hadnt read that what you did though about it initially being open til Jan.  Oh Well.  would be a good question in the main thread in BCT.org  Maybe CfB knows or will ask BCNXT
Not a stakeholder, so NXT accepted here: 12692935506199079028 if you think I've given value here

He did announce it (or c-f-b did, I can't remember), but I don't think it was posted on the the original post of the topic. It was somewhere in the middle of it all.

I'm sure it was more of a timing thing, because after he closed fundraising, genesis block and the client came out shortly after. You can't have fundraising for initial investors when the genesis block is already generated.

I suppose Emunie as a competitor 'could' be the reason to speed things up.

At this point it doesn't really matter, I think the buy in price is still very good.  It will be interesting how many people invest in Emunie as well, they will have a pretty robust feature set at launch in Jan.
