Address lenght and brute forcing
« on: December 05, 2013, 07:55:29 PM »
hey, I am a little concerned regarding address length and the fact that it only consists of numbers. Wouldnt is be way too easy to find an address that belongs to someone else that way?

it doesnt work that way.  you cant use the address to access the account to send money.

All account ids r 256 bits. U see only first 64 bits. Bruteforcing of 256-bit numbers is impossible now.

How do you make sure money doesnt go to the wrong account when you give your address to someone then, since you only give those first 64 bits away to receive anything

Only 1 account with unique first 64 bits allowed in the system. If u managed to create an account with the same 64 bits u wouldn't be able to send transactions.

Ok I ams tarting to understand. Is there a way to check if it already exists before you use it? what if 2 unused addresses have the same 64 first bits? will one get invalidated once the other one is used?

I would say 6 or 7 random and completely unassociated words.  Throw in a misspell and some #s to be safe.

Is there a way to change passphrase associated with your address in NXT client?
