Setting up nodes
« on: December 30, 2013, 12:58:41 AM »
Hi,

Not sure how related this is to donors section but here we go.

I used a tutorial by laowai80 at bitcointalk (recommended at nxtalk.org while this forum was down) to set up a node.
Went for the recommended hallmark node with Debian 7 x64, 2GB RAM and 2 CPUs at DigitalOcean. I intend to sponsor it for the whole year 2014.

It would be nice to make other nxters aware of "create-a-node movement" to withstand future attacks.  Maybe a new section on this forum about node creation an maintenance would be helpful?

On the technical side this new node barely uses 3% of CPU. Is this expected? Can I run some profiling for the node?

I have also set up a node love it so far been playing with the settings. I think it would also be a good idea to add a Node section to help others out and see other configurations.

I run a public node as well, thinking about setting up a second one.

I did the same thing, running a dedicated NXT node 24/7 on 146.185.168.129

I have the node running for more than a week now, experience so far:
- The software is quite unstable, I need to restart it at least once a day;
- I have not been able to forge a single block, although the client often states a block can be forged within 1-2 hours...

I want to add more nodes in the future, but the software has to become more stable, as I do not want to make the attending of the VPS-es a daytime job....
