Getting client to start working
« on: December 03, 2013, 11:48:23 AM »
I have the client, I set it up, all seems to work.

It just doesn't produce any CPU load. Am I doing something wrong or is there just no work to be done?

I presume you are used to seeing increased CPU load when you "mine" other cryptocurrencies. This will not be the case with Nxt coin because it is a pure Proof Of Stake based currency unlike the Proof Of Work based currencies like Bitcoin.

If you have the client set up correctly and have your account unlocked then you are already mining. But you will need some Nxt in your account balance before you can reap any rewards.

Is it normal for the client to change account numbers on a restart?  Every time I stop & restart it, then unlock the account (using the same passphrase each time) I get a different account number.  What am I missing here?

Hmm, in that case remains the question... where to get NXT from....

Not normal, try again and pay attention that the symbols of the passphrase really match

Thanks for your help.  In case someone else runs into something similar, I figured I'd post my results.

I finally got the client working.  Turns out 0.3.5 was just buggy (surprise!) and wouldn't connect to the network on my system.  I know the passphrase was correct, because I was copy/pasting it from a text file to be sure.  But apparently the client needed to talk to the network and was having troubles (lots of IOExceptions).

I upgraded to 0.3.10 and now it's working!  Now I just need to get some BTC transferred so I can buy NXT and start mining.  Or if someone reading this is feeling generous, then I'd be pumped to get any NXT donation, no matter the size...  ;D.  Pretty please!  8)
