Can't send nxt

I'm running NXT on ubuntu, and I've been trying to send some NXT to people. I make the transaction and it goes in my unconfirmed transactions box, but if I restart NXT it disappears. Should these be broadcast to the network? Or is the only way to send money at the moment to mine your own blocks?

what version of the client are you using?  my suggestion would be to stop your client and download all data files and replace all your existing .nxt files in the main directory with the new .nxt data files and restart.  then give your client time to catch up.  the current block now is 7103 but that should steadily increase so make sure your client shows a very up to date latest block (they have time stamps)

Just installed 0.3.6, still nothing

nothing as in just absolutely nothing at all happens?  not program output when you run java?  no webpage comes up when you open the webpage?  what block are you on.

Ubuntu 12.04, jdk-jre7, installed 0.3.6 from download link, run it, went to localhost:7875 in chromium, try to send 10 nxt (with 1 fee) to someone off the "please send me nxt" thread, wait for an hour, transaction doesn't show up in the blockchain viewer, and when i stop and start nxt the transaction has disappeared

is the latest block in your blocks window?  whats the timestamp on it?  is the timestamp within a few minutes of actual time?

Yes and yes. On 0.3.3 the transaction would show up and sit there but never show up in the block viewer, in 0.3.6 it says the money has been sent but then the transaction doesn't even show up. I'm only trying to send 5 or 10 nxt with 1nxt fee but it's not working

Here's what happens on 0.3.9 - transaction is there, but no confirmations, and never shows up in blockchain viewer

well I cant even get 0.3.9 to work now.  I also cant get my blocks up to date....

Maybe I could rephrase this - have you guys managed to successfully send NXT to people? From your own instance or from a hosted one? Did you mine the block yourself? I've tried 20 times now, and none of my transactions end up in a block anywhere

I've tried to send at least 50 transactions. The last few have gone something like this:

- delete all files in the nxt directory
- unzip latest version
- wait for blockchain to sync
- send money
- popup says "money has been sent"
- transaction shows up in my transactions and unconfirmed transactions
- sits there for ages with no confirms
- i eventually kill nxt and restart
- transaction is gone
- any new attempts to send nxt don't even show up in my/unconfirmed transactions
