Or it will be cloned and all the hard work will go out the window. It's easy to make up assumptions or FUD. Your dire assertion that having a strategy to release the source code in a way that protects the project is a bad thing makes your motives questionable. Don't take it personally. The core should definitely be released early Jan. The rest should be subject to rational discussion by the current stakeholders.

I understand how I may have come across, however I have well over fifteen thousand USD invested in NXT at the moment, if it falls I lose a decent chunk of money. I have no hidden motives nor do I wish to create a clone, I want to watch it grow and prosper.

I should have said "as close to the Jan 3rd release date as possible" instead of "as soon as humanly possible." I also was not talking about the full version, rather a functioning core code that proves to the world that NXT has something to offer...

This is the bit that alarmed me --

I think the core/kernel of the code should remain closed source for as long as possible

-- I agree with near everything else said in this thread.

BCNext is planning to release the source code of base features on the 3rd of Jan. Most of stakeholders (who posted their opinion) supported him. I'm working hard trying to make the client working as stable as possible. Even if I fail to do so the code will be released, I hope the community will help me to fix all these stability issues.

I personally think you're doing an amazing job, my only concern was NXT remaining closed source.

I'm sorry if I came off as critical, sleep deprivation mixed with high risk asset management makes for a toxic psychological cocktail.

Really, tell me about it! Managing OPM is better or worse?

But it also has refining effects on our personalities  :o

Now if I had created a really basic coin system to scam people into giving me BTC, I would do this:

 - Create a coin with a promise of some next gen features
 - Promise a release date soon but ask for donations to help fund
 - Talk about background development and advanced features to come
 - Promise to reveal the source code

In the meantime:
 - Sell off the coins I have for as many BTC as possible
 - Withhold the source code as long as possible
 - Release what little source code (the basics) I had when I really had to, and claim the rest was being held back for some reason
 - Continue to sell off the coins for more BTC

And finally:
 - Interest dies away after a total lack of source code and the lack of advanced features actually materialising
 - Sell off the BTC
 - Profit

1) Source code should be published and in terms of java, every java application is opened by default so who wanted NXT code already has it. So it doesn't make sense to me to have it closed (unless you want to rewrite it to C++).
2) Success of NXT depends now mainly on development power, ecosystem quality and community effort + enthusiasm and it's not based on some hidden code. Guys, I can release NXT clone of your code tomorrow so I don't follow your concerns. So publish, spread the word, make it popular. Feel free to mark it as beta if it's not 100% perfect.
3) My concern related to NXT is mainly about active development power and community size. Can you provide some data related to that? I mean how big/strong NXT core team is? That's what concerns me much more at this moment.

Code the shit out of it and get stinking rich/create something awesome.

Fixed that for you.

The more the talk the less you say. Keep it up.

I must say managing personal finances is far more stressful, I take less risks with OPM  ;).

As far as the source code goes I just decompiled the majority of the JAR files to check and see if there is something beneath the surface, there indeed is :).

I was just reviewing the structure of the JAR files, not the .nxt hashed files.

Don't waste time on JARs, it's Jetty code. Nxt code resides in nxt/webapps/root/WEB-INF/classes/*.class.

This is BCNext's idea, some stakeholders supported it, look upthread.

Much, much appreciated CFB. Beautiful code BTW :).
