The client desperately needs attention given to the bugs it has - I've not been able to send NXT with any version of it and I doubt I'm the only one. Coloured coins and other clever stuff are going to mean nothing if nobody uses the client because it's too buggy to begin with.
Valid concerns.
1. The developers are kicking new versions out almost daily. It's come a long way in just a few days for me personally, however, like you said, it still has a ways to go.
2. Not everyone is a developer. While those guys spend time on the code, there's a list of action items that can be handled in tandem but people with other skills.
